11-year-old among 3 people found dead in the house after a SWAT shootout

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati police have identified three people found dead in a College Hill home after an hours-long SWAT shootout.

Police said Patricia McCollum, 78, DJ McCollum, 32, and Kaydence McCollum, 11, were found dead with stab wounds at a home in the 1000 block of Springbrook Drive.

Cincinnati Public Schools said Kaydence was a student at Parker Woods Montessori School. The district made the following statement:

“Cincinnati Public Schools mourns the death of Parker Woods Montessori School student Kaydence McCollum. We are aware of this tragic incident and continue to sympathize and support the family, friends and school community. The district’s Crisis Intervention Team will be at the school on Friday and provide necessary support. Support for students .”

Police responded to the home shortly before 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning for an “unknown issue,” police said. When they arrived, they learned there was an adult male inside with a knife.

After hours of interviews, the adult male, identified as 66-year-old Anthony Mathis, was taken into custody and brought to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with a self-inflicted stab wound. Police said Mathis later died from his injuries.

Police did not provide any information regarding the victims’ relationship to the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this stabbing is asked to call CPD’s Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542.

Patricia McCollum, a well-known foster mother and DJ in the area, was one of her children she adopted after first fostering her. You can read more about him here.
