“I also have a dozen journal entries with my name next to hearts and Timmy’s last name,” says Kira, 36. TODAY.com with a laugh.

The Nixons grew up attending the same church in Ontario, Canada.

“Timmy always had a cute hood in his hair and couldn’t pronounce his R’s,” Kira recalls. “I fell in love with him the most.”

But young Timmy needed some time. Kira remembers being 6 years old and inviting Tim to a McDonald’s birthday party.

“He bought me a Barbie bow and I kissed him on the back of the neck,” Kira says. “He went crazy and demanded to be taken home.”

During elementary school, Kira’s family moved and she lost contact with her childhood friends. But true love waits, and when Kira’s parents return to their small town in Ontario, Canada, Timmy is eager to reconnect. At this point his childhood friends were both in their early 20s.

“He came up to me after church and asked me out,” Kira says. On their first date, Kira and Timmy sat by a river, jumping over stones and talking until 2 a.m. It was as if no time had passed.

Kira says: “Tim says when he came home he told his parents, ‘I think I’m going to marry Kira.’

Timmy proposed in 2012 and the couple married in 2014. The couple are parents to 4-year-old daughter Story and 8-year-old son Steihl.

After Kira shared her story on Instagram, it went viral with over 5 million views.

“I will never forget the day we found this old video. Tim and I had just started dating and we decided to watch old home videos. Our jaws dropped when we found this,” Kira wrote.

“Wow this is so sweet. Something you’d only see in a movie. Soulmates are a real thing,” one person commented.

Another added: “I love that her excitement and energy level is still the same after 22 years. Absolutely a fairytale.”
