Fans fill CPKC Stadium as KC Current moves one step closer to gold

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fans packed the house at CPKC Stadium on Saturday morning to witness another win for the KC Current.

“It’s great, it’s amazing to think that we can finally play a home playoff game for this team in this city,” season ticket holder Cherie Gallagher said.

The stadium met with a red and turquoise sea as the fans showed their support for the team, which has had a successful season so far.

“It’s such a special thing and I’m so happy to have so many different people come behind it, both the fans and the money in the city that supports it and everyone has really grown together and it’s such a beautiful sight,” Gallagher said.

The fans kept the stadium alive from the start of the match until the final whistle.

“You can hear the crowd. It’s a great, resonant space. Everyone here is so excited. We’re excited to be here,” Harper said.

Harper, who quickly became a stadium favorite due to his teal-painted face and red beard, said he was happy to see the women’s hard work on the field being recognized.

“I’m so excited to see women finally getting the chance to shine, to be athletic, and to be the athletes that they are,” Harper said.

As the Current moves towards a matchup with the league’s number one team, the Orlando Pride, fans are excited to continue supporting them every step of the way.

“Once we win the championship, you know it’s going to be a great way for our city to start our inaugural season here and it’s going to be a great way to really show that the team, all the fans and fans in the city are happy with it.” “The women’s team is here, we’ll keep them here,” Gallagher said.
