IDF ‘abuses’ and arrests young Palestinian journalist Aboud Battah

17-year-old Palestinian journalist Aboud Battah was arrested by Israeli military forces on Friday, October 25, near the besieged Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.

Battah was known for his determined documentation of the Israeli occupation of Gaza since October 2023.

Ramy Abdu, President of Euro-Med Human Rights Watch (Swedish non-governmental organization), stated that the army tortured him and then took him to an unknown place and said, “There are serious concerns about his life.”

Battah is one of many Palestinians arrested during the Israeli Armed Forces’ ongoing occupation of the besieged Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabalia, in the northern Gaza Strip, according to Middle East Eye.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that Israeli forces occupied Kamal Adwan Hospital, holding hundreds of patients, medical staff and displaced neighbors seeking shelter from ongoing bombardments.

Many children were also killed after the IDF bombed the main oxygen station.

Just hours before his arrest, Battah shared an Instagram story showing bombed residential blocks in Jabalia.

‘Happy face’ storyteller

Battah is originally from northern Gaza and is known for his “strong voice” during the ongoing war.

He sarcastically shared various stories about the war.

It caught the attention of the internet, especially in the Middle East, after Unicorn Riot, a US non-profit organization, published its story talking about “forced hunger” in Gaza in the middle of the war.

The story described how Palestinians sought their basic livelihood and how local vegetation helped people survive.

Battah won hearts online with her “happy” storytelling, as she is seen smiling in all her stories, even when talking about the “brutal killings” in Gaza.
