NAFDAC closes restaurant due to poor hygiene practices in Abuja

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday sealed a restaurant in the Federal Capital Territory for inadequate Good Hygiene Practices.

NAFDAC also seized food raw materials suspected to be contaminated with rodent feces and droppings, citing unhygienic packaging.

Head of NAFDAC FCT Directorate, Mr. Kenneth Azikiwe, who made this statement, said the enforcement team received a notice from a customer and the General Manager, Prof. Mojisola stated that he acted on Adeyeye’s orders.

Azikiwe said the operation aims to improve public health security and provide safe, quality food to Nigerian citizens.

He emphasized that the agency’s mandate includes monitoring production, distribution and compliance with regulations.

According to him, all restaurants must comply with NAFDAC Food Hygiene Regulations, which ensure safe and quality food handling.

Azikiwe said the agency would penalize the restaurant in accordance with its regulations that set penalties for poor hygiene practices.

“NAFDAC will evaluate the restaurant’s facilities, staff, facilities and raw material sources before imposing fines,” he said.

Azikiwe encouraged other FCT restaurateurs to obtain NAFDAC’s food hygiene credentials and certification, highlighting the agency’s ongoing assessments and potential benefits.

He urged restaurateurs in the FCT to visit NAFDAC’s office or website (www.nafdac.gov.ng) for safety guidelines and information.
