“These precious families have been in our thoughts and prayers, and this is one way to show them how much our community loves and appreciates them and hopes to help them this holiday season,” Marion Deputy Mayor Jim Gates said.

Additionally, members of the public on the front lines following Hurricane Helene are encouraged to march in the parade with a group called “Hurricane Helene Heroes.”

“We invite our public works crew, first responders, linemen, tree service crew, VDOT employees and anyone who volunteers to help to be a part of our celebration,” Gates said. “They have worked tirelessly throughout this tragedy to revitalize our community, and this is one small way we can come together to say ‘Thank you’ to them.”

In addition to the Christmas Parade on December 6, the town will also host a Tree Lighting Ceremony in front of City Hall on December 5 at 6 p.m. Hurricane Helene Heroes participants are also invited to stand next to Deputy Mayor Gates during the tree lighting.

Those who want to participate as a hero must be at City Hall on December 5th at 5:30pm for the tree ceremony and line up on College Street at 6pm on December 6th for the parade.
