Bentancur was handed a seven-match ban and £100,000 fine for his comments about Heung-Min Son

Rodrigo Bentancur has been banned for seven games and fined £100,000 by the FA for racist comments he made about teammate Heung-Min Son in an interview..

The Tottenham midfielder was alleged to have breached FA Rule E3.1 by “acting inappropriately and/or using abusive and/or insulting language and/or bringing the game into disrepute”.

The FA also said it was alleged that the comments made constituted an “aggravated breach” because they contained reference – whether express or implied – to nationality and/or race and/or ethnicity.

Bentancur denied the accusation, but an independent regulatory commission found it was proven.

The Uruguayan player will still be able to play in the Europa League.

However, he will not return to home matches until December 26 and will miss Premier League games against Manchester City, Fulham, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool, as well as Spurs’ League Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.
