Latest weather: Millions under weather warning; yellow health warnings available; Up to 20 cm of snow on the way | UK News

There are three weather warnings across the UK today; Let’s take each of these one by one.

Northern Ireland

Citizens in Northern Ireland have been warned to expect snow and ice from 15:00 today.

This is the Met Office’s yellow warning, which will last until 10am tomorrow morning.

“Showers will arrive from the west on Monday afternoon, turning into sleet and perhaps wet snow in the afternoon, evening and first half of the night. A few cm of snowfall is expected in the higher elevations above 200-300 meters. Possibly 5-5 cm in the higher elevations of the Sperrins and Mournes.” It extends over a distance of 10 cm,” says the office.

North West, Midlands and North East England

A yellow weather warning will be in effect for parts of northern England from 7pm this evening until 10am tomorrow morning.

The Met Office says snow and ice are to be expected around this time.

“There will be rain, sleet and snow showers for a period of time from Monday evening to Tuesday morning,” the office said.

“The most likely scenario is that most of the snow will accumulate on the hills, with 5-10cm accumulating above 200m and perhaps 15-20cm above 300m.”

It is stated that icing may occur due to the rain and sleet stopping in the morning hours.

Scotland

Ice and snow can also be expected in Scotland from 4pm today until Wednesday morning.

“Snow and hail showers will affect northern parts of Scotland at times, becoming heavier and more frequent on Monday night, most of Tuesday and then overnight into Wednesday morning,” the office said.

He adds that snow will accumulate “quite extensively” during this period.
