At least 200 people who violated Kwara State environmental law during Saturday’s environmental clean-up exercise were arrested and charged in mobile courts across the state.

This was contained in a statement by Kamaldeen Aliagan, spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment in Ilorin on Sunday.

The statement said Environment Commissioner Nafisat Musa Buge once again warned residents and commercial carriers not to violate the state’s environmental law during the monthly clean-up exercise.

Expressing his displeasure over the violation of the environmental sanitation law by some commercial motor parks, he urged them to desist from such actions that could sabotage the environmental law.

The Commissioner urged residents to consistently comply with the state’s environmental laws in order to develop a livable, clean and healthy environment for all and attract investors for the overall development of the state.

The commissioner, represented by his Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Ayinla, said he was excited about the level of compliance among residents of the state, adding: “With what we have observed in the metropolis today and reports received from local government areas of the state, the level of compliance has increased significantly.”

“Therefore, more efforts need to be made to ensure sustainability to promote a hygienic environment to prevent epidemics in society,” he added.

The Commissioner appealed to Kwarans to strictly comply with the sanitation laws of the state for the benefit of all.

Nafisat, however, lauded the security agencies and various voluntary organizations for their tireless support in ensuring smooth sanitation implementation.

He also cautioned the public not to relent in their efforts to make Kwara a pioneering, clean and hygienic environmental state.
