TN BJP calls for sacking of Health Minister Ma Subramanian over doctor stabbing case

Chennai, November 17 (IANS): Tamil Nadu BJP Spokesperson ANS Prasad called for the immediate removal of state Health Minister Ma Subramanian, citing the “deepening health crisis” in the state.

Prasad’s request was made by Dr., an oncologist at Kalaignar Centenary Hospital, Chennai. It comes after Balaji was shockingly stabbed by 26-year-old Vignesh.

The BJP leader argued that this incident exposed the harsh reality of the state’s healthcare system and contradicted the DMK government’s claims that it runs the best government hospitals in India.

Prasad criticized the severe shortage of doctors, nurses and medical staff in Tamil Nadu government hospitals and said it was leading to unbearable work pressure, mental stress and frustration among healthcare workers.

“Patients from economically weaker sections are bearing the brunt of this crisis; they face immense hardship and humiliation due to lack of basic amenities, including beds, medicines and diagnostic equipment.”

Prasad also highlighted the “deteriorating condition” of government hospitals across the districts, alleging that the DMK government had “failed” to fulfill its election promises and meet the long-standing demands of doctors.

“Despite Health Minister Ma Subramanian’s empty boasts at press conferences, Tamil Nadu’s healthcare system is in shambles. “His failure to meet basic needs and improve hospital management represents a gross dereliction of duty,” he said.

The BJP leader urged the government to prioritize healthcare reforms, including increasing the doctor-patient ratio, increasing the strength of nurses and medical staff, improving laboratory facilities, ensuring uninterrupted supply of medicines and increasing bed capacity in hospitals.

He emphasized that the crumbling healthcare infrastructure not only affects patients but also triggers violence, as seen in the recent stabbing incident.

“The people of Tamil Nadu deserve better than a government that prioritizes rhetoric over real action. Prasad added that the DMK government should be held accountable for its failures in the field of healthcare and should take urgent steps to revamp the system.
