Last week, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle abandoned in the middle of the road, a cat stuck in a power line, a serious and threatening incident at the library, and multiple reports of fraud.

The following events occurred between Monday 14 October and Sunday 20 October: weekly record of notable calls Released by Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, Oct. 14, staff at the Summit County Library in Frisco reported a disturbance between two men. When the verbal argument between the two ended, officers reported hearing a sound that sounded like a bullet being put into a firearm. Library staff evacuated everyone from the building and no shots were fired. The suspect left the scene. Deputies investigated by speaking to the other man and witnesses and reported finding probable cause for several crimes. Deputies located the man nearby and took him into custody without incident. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man was armed with a handgun and was charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated menacing.

Also Monday, deputies received a report from a man who claimed his ex-girlfriend tried to break into her father’s home and pointed a firearm at him. Police teams arriving at the scene quickly determined that the man was hallucinating. While deputies requested medical attention, the man told paramedics he was hallucinating due to taking an overdose of prescription medication. No crime was found and the man was handed over to a family member.

On Tuesday, October 15, a man found his extremely drunk neighbor in the grass outside his home. The neighbor could not stand and kept falling down while trying to get up. Deputies requested medical attention and were taken to St. Louis due to the man’s level of intoxication. He was transported to Anthony Summit Hospital.

On Wednesday, October 16, deputies received a report of a vehicle posing a hazard in the middle of Tiger Road, unoccupied and with no lights on. Deputies repeatedly attempted to contact the owner of the vehicle but were unsuccessful and had the vehicle towed.

Also Wednesday, a Wildernest man paid an unidentified person on Facebook $2,000 for sports tickets, which turned out to be fake. A deputy received a report, the investigation continues.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, a man in unincorporated Breckenridge reported that two deer were trapped in his playset and he thought they needed help. Deputies responded, but it turned out the deer was able to get out and continue on its way when it was done having fun.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, a woman paid $2,000 for a Wildernest rental she found on Craigslist. He was supposed to move into the unit the next day, but when he arrived he found the unit was already occupied and not for rent. The woman is working with Apple Pay and Zelle to stop the payments being made. An investigation is ongoing.

Also on Saturday, animal control received a report of a cat stuck in a power line in Summit Cove. Animal control officers used the dog hammock as a blanket and wet food as bait and called for the cat to try to get it down, which they eventually succeeded in doing. The cat was not chipped and was taken to the animal shelter.

On Sunday, October 20, a bus driver reported that a belligerent passenger was upset because he thought he would not be able to arrive at his appointment on time due to a mechanical issue that delayed the bus’ departure. Law enforcement said the passenger verbally threatened to attack the driver, and a nearby security guard helped remove the passenger from the bus while waiting for deputies. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the passenger reportedly attempted to fight with the driver before deputies arrived, but no physical incident occurred. Deputies arrived on scene and investigated before issuing the passenger a summons for harassment of public property and unlawful conduct.

Also last week, Next Page Bookstore in Frisco donated four boxes of books to the Summit County jail. According to the Sheriff’s Office, for the past several years the business has regularly donated brand new books to those in jail.
