In November 1987, there was a scare in Manhattan’s upscale West Village when attorney Joel Steinberg came home under the influence of crack cocaine and brutally beat the six-year-old child he called his daughter. He then left to meet a friend for dinner, and when we returned home we continued to smoke drugs, ignoring the plight of him and the injured girl his roommate named Lisa. He was dead the next morning. The case shocked New York and the country.
