Actress Kasthuri Shankar arrested for making derogatory remarks against Telugu community

Chennai: Actress Kasthuri Shankar was arrested by Chennai police in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, with the help of Siberabad police on Saturday. He is being detained as part of the ongoing investigation against him. Derogatory remarks about Telugu community.

The arrest came after Kasthuri’s bail plea was rejected by the Madras High Court on November 14 in a case related to comments she made at a Brahmin meeting in Chennai on November 3. The court, led by Justice Anand Venkatesh, found Kasthuri’s remarks “unfair”. and stated that his subsequent apology was insufficient to address the controversy.

Kasthuri allegedly claimed that Telugu-speaking people in Tamil Nadu were “descendants of prostitutes” who came to serve kings 300 years ago and now claim Tamil origins. His comments sparked widespread backlash and led to a member of Naidu Mahajana Sangam State filing an FIR against him.

In response to the uproar, Kasthuri issued an apology on social media platform X, accusing “Tamil Nadu’s Goebbels and the anti-Hindu DMK network” of spreading fake news. He also reiterated his love for the Telugu community and said, “The people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will never fall for their lies.”

Greater Chennai Police Commissioner has sent a special team to Andhra Pradesh to trace Kasthuri, who had reportedly absconded before her arrest.
