Wolf made his career debut with 29 saves as the Flames beat the Predators 2-0.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Rookie Dustin Wolf made 29 saves in his career debut, Daniil Miromanov scored his first goal of the season and the Calgary Flames beat the Nashville Predators 2-0 on Friday night.

Blake Coleman scored an empty net against Calgary. The Flames have earned points in five of six games, following five defeats in six games.

The Predators were eliminated for the third time this season and have one win in their last seven games. Juuse Saros stopped 31 shots for Nashville.

Both goalkeepers stopped short-term escapes. Wolf benched Cole Smith in the first period, and Saros extended the pad to thwart a two-man rush by Coleman in the third period, making it a one-goal game.

takeaway

Predators: Steven Stamkos had one of Nashville’s best scoring opportunities on a rebound from the edge of the net, but Wolf held out a pad to block it. The 34-year-old had eight points (four goals, four assists) in 18 games in his first year in Nashville after 16 seasons in Tampa Bay, but only two points were at even strength.

Flames: Calgary held a two-man advantage for nearly two minutes late in the second period, but Jonathan Huberdeau’s seemingly innocuous 20-foot wrist shot from the blue line was the only shot on target.

key moment

Calgary finally took the lead at 6:38 of the final period. Nazen Kadri won the faceoff and passed the puck back to MacKenzie Weegar. After making a fake shot, Weegar sent a pass to Miromanov, who cut in from the point and shot over Saros’ shoulder.

Key statistics

The low-scoring game was a showdown between the league’s smallest goaltenders. Saros is an inch shorter than Wolf, the lightest netminder at 6-foot-1, 166 pounds.
