Tropical Storm Sara’s threat to Florida is decreasing; NHC says it should disperse into the Gulf of Mexico

Tropical Storm Sara is expected to dissipate over or near Mexico’s Yucantan Peninsula early next week, eliminating the tropical threat to the U.S. Gulf Coast or Florida, according to the FOX 35 Storm Team and the National Hurricane Center.

NHC said cold waters and strong winds in the Gulf of Mexico will prevent Sara from developing over the Gulf of Mexico and it will be completely absorbed by a cold front. Central Florida will likely see heavy rain and perhaps thunderstorms on Wednesday. FOX 35 Weather Impact Day.

FOX 35’s Brooks Garner said it would also eliminate major threats of a hurricane reaching Florida during the remainder of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. Brooks said he could see a few more named systems in the Atlantic basin and Caribbean, but none will threaten Florida from there. Hurricane season ends on November 30, 2024.

Where is Tropical Storm Sara?

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Sara was approaching the east coast of Honduras early Friday morning; Heavy rainfall, flood and landslide potential is expected here over the weekend and early next week.

At 4 a.m., about 65 miles from Isla Guanaja, Honduras, and 230 miles from Belize City, Belize, sustained winds were 45 mph and moving west at 9 mph, the NHC said.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for the northern coast of Honduras and areas close to the Honduras-Nicaragua border.

“A continued westward motion at a slower pace is expected throughout the next day. A slow west-northwestward motion is expected late Saturday. Along the forecast path, Sara’s center will continue to approach the north coast. The NHC is forecast to move from Honduras early Saturday hours, and then approach the coast of Belize in the early hours of Sunday.

The NHC said Sara should weaken quickly as it passes Belize on Sunday and will then dissipate.

When does hurricane season end?

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season ends on November 30, 2024. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 each year. In rare cases, it is possible for storms to occur outside these windows.

Tropical Storm Sara is currently the 18th named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.

So far this year we have had 11 hurricanes and six tropical storms; a total of 18 of these were named storms.
