Reality star Jax Taylor has admitted he “caught his estranged wife Brittany Cartwright off guard” when she set her mind to divorce plans, admitting she thought she wanted to be the person who “publicly presents the paper”.

Jax Taylor “blindsided” his estranged wife Brittany Cartwright as he continues with his divorce plans.

The reality TV stars split earlier this year, and it was Brittany who filed the paperwork to officially end the marriage, but Jax has now revealed that it was she who first suggested they make their split official during her stint in rehab.

“The second weekend of rehab, I emailed Brittany and said, ‘I’m finding a mediator,'” he explained during an appearance on Bravo’s ‘Hot Mic’ podcast.

“People don’t realize that I was the one who started this. So when I emailed her and found a mediator, when I emailed Brittany, she said, ‘Oh, no, I’m getting a divorce lawyer.’ So I said, ‘Okay, whatever.’ But I said, ‘Why don’t we get a mediator? Like, why don’t we save some money? There’s a reason to spend all this money.'”

He insisted that he thought Brittany wanted to be the one “presenting the papers publicly.”

Jax, 45, added: “I think he wanted to be the first person to publicly present me with documents. I think he wanted to get ahead of it while I was there. I think he wanted to be the first person to publicly say, ‘I’m divorcing him, even though, honestly, I was the one who started it.’

He continued: “This was meant to happen. I think I caught him off guard a little bit. I think he really, really wanted me to work on the marriage. I think that was his point. And I was so blown away. I was really out of control then, I couldn’t go back now.”

It comes after Brittany, 35, admitted she had had the “toughest year” of her life and hopes telling her story will help other women “find their strength”.

In a post on Instagram, Brittany wrote: “This has been the hardest year of my life and that’s just part of my story. At the end of the day, I’m learning as I go and trying to be as strong as possible for my son.”

“I hope I can help other women who are going through what I’m going through find their strength because it’s not as easy as it seems. (sic)”

The former couple met in 2015 and got married in 2019. They have a three-year-old son named Cruz.
