Gloucester man sentenced to death for overdose in 2020

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An East Carolina man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison in connection with a 2020 overdose death.

William McMillion, 44, of Gloucester, pleaded guilty to capital murder by distribution of fentanyl after the overdose death of Heidi Guiendon, according to District Attorney Scott Thomas.

McMillion was sentenced to between five years and six months and seven years and eight months in active prison.

In 2020, deputies responded to a possible overdose death on Sept. 11 after Guiendon’s mother found him unresponsive in his bedroom, authorities said.

The 43-year-old Otway woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and her death was later determined to be fentanyl poisoning.

Deputies seized a small bag of powder from Guiendon’s nightstand and cellphone, which revealed that he had contacted McMillion and asked him to sell $100 worth of drugs.

Authorities said McMillion went to Guiendon’s home, took $100 that Guiendon had left under a seashell on his porch, and left the drugs there.

Analysis revealed that the bag contained a mixture of Fentanyl and Tramadol.
