Ahead of the upcoming holiday season, Patreon will let you gift memberships to friends and family. Patreon says it gives creators the chance to give their income a “holiday boost” and send fans a thoughtful gift.

First, Patreon members can now purchase or upgrade membership for anyone and share it with a simple link. Patreon explained the new feature in a blog post: “By giving gifts, they can now introduce friends, family and other fans to new works or upgrade their existing free member experience to a paid one.”

When purchasing a gift subscription, you can choose the membership level and subscription period and share them with a personalized message. The recipient simply taps the shared link to activate the subscription.

Select Patreon creators may also offer free membership subscriptions as a way to say thank you or to offer fans a free trial of paid perks. To qualify, creators must be a subscription billing type with an unrestricted paid tier. Each gift can be used up to 1000 times (or a lower limit at the creator’s discretion) and for up to 12 months. Only members who are not currently subscribed to a paid tier are eligible for this promotion.

Similarly, creators can also offer discounts on paid membership tiers. Whether creators set up limited-time holiday discounts for all visitors or surprise specific groups with special discount codes, fans will now be able to join creators’ Patreon community at a more accessible price, the blog post said. Creators can set the discount percentage and discount codes and choose whether the promotion applies to all membership tiers or a select few membership tiers. Free subscriptions and discounts should both appear in the promotions tab in the Patreon dashboard.
