“This was very important. I think after his health scare, a part of Matty was ready to throw in the towel. “One of the things we discussed in the pilot was how she thought she was going to break in, that it was going to be challenging and that it was going to be difficult,” Coiro noted. “But she didn’t realize that she would develop such a deep connection with the people she worked with, from Olympia to Billy to Sarah and even the people on the cases she was working on. “He is such an empathetic person that it gets quite tiring.”

Matty had to get to a point where I felt “emotionally” drained.. “What happens at the end of this episode feels like a message from the universe to him that he needs to move on,” Coiro added. “And I think he was ready to give up.”

Introduced as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, this main character initially stands out due to sharing the same last name as the iconic Matlock of the ’80s series. Meanwhile, Matty is a former lawyer hoping to get hired at a prestigious law firm after falling on hard times – or so it seems.

The series later revealed that it was all a game. Matty is actually wealthy Madeline Kingston, who goes undercover at the firm to find out who is responsible for her daughter’s death. Current suspects on Matty’s list include Olympia, Julian, and Senior (Beau Bridges).

As Matty slowly tries to solve the case, there’s no rush to get answers to all the important questions by the end of the season. Fortunately, matlock already renewed by CBS for the second season.
