28-year-old young man hit and run, causing serious injuries

A 28-year-old Bergen County man has been charged in a hit-and-run that left a 17-year-old teenager seriously injured, authorities announced Thursday.

The Fort Lee man is charged with third-degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in injury and preventing apprehension, and fourth-degree charges of obstructing justice and tampering with physical evidence, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office officials said.

Palisades Park Police responded to an emergency call around 6:40 a.m. on Oct. 14 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Brinkerhoff Boulevard, authorities said.

Police found a 17-year-old victim from Fort Lee at the scene, and the vehicle involved was already on the road, authorities said.

According to authorities, the victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities said the investigation revealed that a car hit the teenager while he was trying to cross Brinkerhoff Boulevard at the 14th Street intersection.

The 28-year-old suspect is accused of driving the car at the time of the incident, authorities said. Authorities said the car the man was driving was found a month later after repairs were made to hide damage from the hit-and-run.

The man was arrested and charged Wednesday, authorities said.

No other details about the investigation were released by authorities Thursday. The young man’s current condition was not disclosed.
