Plans for parking at Hudson and Worth

Tribeca Citizen | Plans for parking at Hudson and Worth

Plans have been submitted to the Landmarks Preservation Commission to build a one-story commercial building in the trapezoidal parking lot at 74 Hudson, at the corner of Worth. Community Board 1 will hear details tonight at the Highlights Committee meeting; I’ll watch it on YouTube tomorrow.

The site hasn’t changed hands since 1985, when it was purchased for $300,000, so it’s a lease. And it’s definitely located in the Tribeca West Historic District, so even though it’s a single story, it should be reviewed by Landmarks.

In 2019, the space was listed as a proposal: a single-story glass box with a lower level and mezzanine, totaling 18,000 square feet. Each floor in this concept had 16′ ceilings. It was later listed as a “dramatic landmark-certified glass-boxed new development” with a loft that tenants could use or break through skylights. At the time, they thought it would work for fashion, design or restaurant tenants. Obviously this plan never materialized, so this must be the second effort to permit the site.

Seems like a good trade for parking as long as you don’t park your car there.

The meeting will be held in the Community Board conference room at 1 Center Street, 2202A-North, but you can watch the meeting. We’re live here on WebEx.
