Local coaches respond to WVSSAC lawsuits

PARKERSBURG, W.Va.. (WTAP) -As lawsuits continue that led to the postponement of the West Virginia playoffs, coaches in Wood and Pleasants County had their own reactions to the latest situation. developments.to

Reactions from football coaches in Wood County were mixed depending on how the coaches viewed the situation.

“I would compare the situation now to when we were dealing with COVID,” Parkersburg South head coach Nathan Tanner said. “Whenever we were dealing with COVID on a daily basis, you didn’t know if your game on Friday was going to be played, and you didn’t know if you were going to play that opponent.”

“We’re kind of in limbo now,” said Parkersburg High School head coach Matt Kimes. “We’re not sure what’s going to happen. There are rumors, but they’re all just rumors for now until the WVSSAC decides what the final verdict is. Then we’ll start preparing for our opponent. “

“This isn’t just a party,” said Williamstown High School head coach Chris Beck. “You can look at the state board of education, you can look at the board of controls, you can look at the board of review, you can look at WVSSAC. They all played a role and the biggest thing is that everyone wants to say it’s their fault. “It’s everyone’s fault.”

According to Blue Devils head coach Jodi Mote, St. St. Mary High School’s situation in the playoffs is uncertain.

“We were supposed to play with Tucker, but we don’t even know if we’re in the playoffs,” Mote said. “Yes, one side of you blames the other side. The other party blames the other party. “There are all these committees, they blame everyone, and the end result is that it’s the student-athletes who are being punished because the adults made the decisions.”

The process will now move forward for Wood County Schools.

“What we need to do right now is just worry about ourselves and focus on what we can control, which is who we are, and try to get better every day,” added Coach Kimes.

“We have to be better and ready to go,” Beck said. “So for us it’s about blocking out all the noise, controlling what you can control, and we can control it by being the best team we can be.”
