One person taken to hospital following fire at McIvor Court

Police are investigating the scene and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to investigate the cause of Wednesday’s second floor fire.

THUNDER BAY – A resident of an apartment complex on Lincoln Avenue was taken to hospital for treatment following a fire on the second floor of McIvor Court.

In a statement released Wednesday evening, the Thunder Bay fire rescue unit said the call came in around 2 p.m., and when they arrived on scene, the first crew confirmed there was a working fire in a second-floor apartment and smoke was coming out of the window.

Fire crews reported heavy black smoke at the entrance to the unit and a fire in the bedroom. The fire was quickly extinguished and the resident was located and treated by Superior North EMS paramedics and then taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

None of the residents of the 6-storey building were evacuated due to the fire.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified and will take over the investigation on Thursday in an effort to find the cause of the fire.

Police are currently investigating the scene.

Eight pumpers, two aerial ladders and a fire crew were called to the scene.

A 40-year-old man was charged with arson when another fire broke out at his apartment complex earlier this year.
