Michigan’s quarterback carousel brings us back to where we started

Earlier in the week, head coach Sherrone Moore pointed to the veteran player. Jack Tuttle He was the most likely to start Saturday night against Michigan State. However, as the week progressed, reporting shifted to high-level reporting. daviswarren As the most likely candidate to start, he brings us back to where we started with the Wolverines.

Warren was named the starting quarterback ahead of Michigan’s Week 1 matchup against Fresno State and held that position on the depth chart through the first three weeks of the season. However, after throwing his sixth interception in the Week 3 matchup against Arkansas State, Warren was replaced by junior quarterback Alex Orji. While there was some confidence that Orji’s dual-threat ability would open the door to some explosive plays, Michigan’s offense continued to look stagnant. After two games (and an initial 2-0 record), Orji was benched for the Week 6 matchup against Washington and replaced by veteran Jack Tuttle.

Even though Tuttle committed some costly turnovers in the loss against Washington, it looked like Michigan might have an undisputed QB1 for the first time all season. This belief only lasted a week. Tuttle made his first career start as a Wolverine in Week 7 against Illinois, and things went about as badly as they could.

After exploring all of his old options through the first seven games and not having much success in any of them, Sherrone Moore faced a difficult decision ahead of Michigan’s Week 8 matchup against Michigan State; will likely need to live together for the remainder of the 2024 season. If the reports are true and Davis Warren is set to start Saturday night’s game, there’s no going back. Moore can’t keep switching among his stable of veteran QBs at the expense of the rest of the offense.

For better or worse, the player who started on Saturday night should be the player who starts the rest of this season’s games.
