Court records state that it all started on Nov. 7 when Glendale police received a 911 call from a victim who stated that someone had stolen $50,000 in cash from his vehicle and the victim was chasing the suspect.

The victim told police that he received a large sum of money from a law firm that same morning and went to deposit the check at Wells Fargo Bank because the check was issued by Wells Fargo. However, the victim said he did his business at Chase Bank but knew his usual bank would block the check due to the large amount.

Court documents stated the victim took the check to Wells Fargo and the teller was able to hand over a large check along with $50,000 in cash.

The victim told police he planned to look at the vehicle later and thought cash would be nice if he decided to purchase the vehicle.

Documents stated the victim took $50,000 and it was placed in a brown bag.

The victim and his son then left the Wells Fargo Bank and went to Chase Bank to deposit the cashier’s check and keep the money.

Police reported that the victim was close to the place where the truck he wanted to buy was offered for sale, he went there and waited for the seller to come home.

Court documents state that the victim was counting money from the bank in the car while waiting for the dealer to return home.

Police said the victim met the dealer in the driveway, where the salesman, a black male, entered the victim’s vehicle and removed a purse from the vehicle.

The victim then turned to look at his car and saw the suspect running toward the front passenger side of a gray sedan.

The victim and his son ran to their car to follow the suspect’s vehicle and called 911 to report the suspect’s vehicle.

While the victim was chasing the suspect’s vehicle, a Glendale officer observed both vehicles pass by at a high rate of speed.

According to authorities, at this time, the suspect’s vehicle was seen running a red light at 67th Street and Olive Avenue and crashing into a vehicle at the intersection.

Following the collision, the victim caught up with the suspect’s car and Reginald Chatman was seen running away from the vehicle with Raymond Pouncy.

The victim grabbed Chatman and got into a physical fight while his son chased Pouncy on foot.

Police said Chatman dropped the money during the fight, causing it to spill onto the road and scatter the money. The victim then stopped fighting Chatman and tried to pick up his money from the ground, while Chatman grabbed a pile of cash and fled on foot.

The victim left the remaining cash on the ground and threw it into the suspect’s driver’s side of the car, court documents said. The victim stated that during the fight, the suspect dropped his red cell phone on the ground next to the suspect’s car. While waiting for officers to arrive, the victim took the phone and threw it into the suspect’s car to keep it as evidence.

Police teams searched the suspect’s vehicle and found a large amount of $100 bills in the vehicle, and after issuing a search warrant, $47,205 was seized inside the vehicle.

Two men, Chatman and Pouncy, were also detained by authorities.

During questioning, Chatman was asked if he was at the bank and following the victim, and he said, “I don’t know,” authorities said.

During Pouncy’s questioning, authorities asked him how long he had known Chaman, and Pouncy said, “I want to use my fifth amendment.”

Court documents stated that both men had previous arrests and convictions.
