Passenger killed after pickup truck driver crashes into semi in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – An Orrville man was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon when the pickup he was riding in crashed into a parked truck.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said the crash occurred at US-30 and Kohler Road in Sugar Creek Towship around 2:30 p.m.

When the driver of the semi stopped to turn left onto Kohler Road, he was rear-ended by a driver traveling eastbound on US-30, according to troopers.

The pickup driver, a 45-year-old Massillon man, had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported via medical helicopter to Akron General Hospital.

Soldiers said there were “immobilizing” injuries.

His passenger, 41-year-old Adam Sartin, was killed.

Troopers added that neither man was wearing a seat belt.

While the driver of the truck was not injured, the investigation into the accident continues.
