Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a Sun Valley Ralphs grocery store late Tuesday night.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, two men entered the store on Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Roscoe Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. The other three men followed and began attacking them with pipe wrenches.

Police said one of the attacked men opened fire on the three attackers, who then fled the store.

One man was taken to the hospital after first responders found him about a mile away from the store and began performing CPR on him. Police believe this person was one of the attackers. He died from his injuries.

A short time later, another man with a gunshot wound to the leg was found nearby and taken to hospital, where he was treated and released. He is not called a suspect, but police are talking to the man.

Police are working to locate everyone involved and no customers or employees were injured during the disturbance at the store.

It’s unclear why the first attack occurred, and investigators are working to determine whether it was gang-related.
