Homebase will be handed over to administration, with 130 stores facing closure, putting countless jobs at risk.

DIY The garden chain closed 106 branches in 2018 and made losses of more than £40 million in 2022, according to accounts filed at Companies House.

Hilco Capital, which bought the retailer for £1 in 2018, is trying to balance the books.

In order to save some jobs, Sainsbury’s to transform 10 Homebase’s 145 stores in the UK and Ireland are being converted into supermarkets.

These converted sites are located in: Sutton Coldfield, Bromsgrove, Cromer, Derry/Londonderry, Fareham, Inverurie, Lowestoft, Newark, Omagh and Rugby.

The move follows reports that Homebase’s owners were preparing to sell the company and rival retailer The Range was eyeing Homebase.
