Woman gives birth to baby boy in MIA’s ticketing area – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, FLA. (WSVN) – It was a special delivery at Miami International Airport when a woman gave birth to a baby boy in the ticket booth lounge.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a medical call at the airport just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The female passenger’s water broke and she began giving birth near Checkpoint 1 in the pre-security area.

The 911 calls recorded the moments after the woman went into labor.

“Answering to Door 3, pregnant woman. 911 dispatcher said there was a possible miscarriage outside Door 3. “3. departures from the door, Rescue 40.”

“Rescue 40 copies, on the way,” a fire rescue official said.

In the video, the newborn can be seen lying on the ground, peeking out of a blanket while his mother is helped by multiple agencies. The baby is seen in his mother’s arms while being comforted by one of the police officers.

“Live! Is it alive? an official said to the 911 operator.

“Yes!” said another official.

“OK. Speaking to the operator, the official said, “Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.”

“We have a son!” said a nearby officer.

The 911 operator then began locating the ambulance to take the new mother and her baby to the hospital.

“Rescue 40. Your prediction? Baby born, Rescue 40?” said the female 911 operator.

“Rescue 40. We’re still about seven minutes away,” a paramedic told the operator.

Paramedics took the woman and child to a local hospital.

An airport employee told 7News she believed her mother was about to leave for another state between flights when her water broke. The employee wondered how different the situation would have been if the baby had been born during the flight.

There was no word on the condition of the mother or her baby late Tuesday night.
