Texas moves up in College Football Playoff rankings, playoff picture

Misery in Georgia and Miami turns into joy for the Texas Longhorns. Thanks to the losses of canes and Bulldogs on SaturdayHorns move up two rows college football playoff rankings. Texas is currently ranked No. 3 and is in position to take the No. 2 seed, which would give UT a first-round bye.

Miami dropped to 9th in the rankings after a 28-23 loss to Georgia Tech. However, as the highest-ranked ACC team, the Hurricanes will receive a first-round bye and the 4th seed in the bracket.

Georgia’s 28-10 loss to Ole Miss dropped Georgia to 12th in the rankings and outside rankings. Ole Miss moved up to No. 11 in the rankings and earned the No. 11 seed after beating the Bulldogs.

Oregon and Ohio State remain Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. The Ducks will receive the No. 1 seed and a bye, while the Buckeyes will fall to the No. 5 seed and play Boise State in the first round.

The SEC and Big Ten each have four teams in the 12-team college football bracket. The Big 12 and ACC each have one. Boise State became its fifth conference champion, joining independent Notre Dame to fill 12 spots.
