Texas man sentenced to life in prison after killing Colorado girlfriend

A Texas man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his girlfriend in Colorado last week after she tried to break off their relationship, court officials said.

Following a several-week trial that began in October, an Adams County jury found Ricardo Perales-Cordero, 33, guilty of murder after deliberating for less than two hours, officials with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Perales-Cordero was sentenced to life in prison without parole by Adams County District Court Judge Jeffrey Dean Ruff on Tuesday, Nov. 5, for the 2022 murder of his ex-girlfriend in Brighton, court records show.

The victim met Perales-Cordero, who lives in Texas, online in March 2022, and the two were together for about seven months before trying to break off the relationship in October 2022, prosecutors said in the news release.

A few days after the attempted breakup, Perales-Cordero drove from Houston, Texas, to Brighton and met the woman at the Quality Inn, prosecutors said.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, hotel employees heard an argument and two gunshots before seeing Perales-Cordero leave the hotel and drive off. When employees entered the hotel room a short time later, they found the victim dead in bed with a gunshot wound to the head.
