Man’s best friend finds sanctuary at the Buffalo Barkery

Sponsored by Buffalo Barkery

More than a decade ago, Maggie Lamparelli was discouraged by recalls in the pet food industry and began baking homemade dog treats and treats at her home in Florida. She shared these with her sister-in-law, Cheryl Lamparelli, and several others. Noticing others’ interest in their recipes, Cheryl and Maggie decided to go into business together.

“My dogs are my children, so I always want the best for them,” says Maggie. “It basically came down to me wanting to offer them the best quality ingredients and products I could find.”

After Maggie moved to Buffalo in 2015, her sisters-in-law opened a brick-and-mortar store in the Market Arcade on Main Street. Buffalo Shell currently at 47 Allen St., where Lamparelli’s serves a loyal customer base. He resides at.

The duo says their most popular product is their homemade, Buffalo-themed dog biscuits; These include flavors like Buffalo and pumpkin, beef and chicken nuggets. The store also offers frozen yogurt treats and made-to-order cupcakes and cupcakes for special pet celebrations (plus options in the sales floor freezer for those who forget to order in advance).

Treats, toys and accessories for dogs and cats, as well as Buffalo-themed pet supplies from local vendors, round out Barkery’s offerings.

“Everything we carry at our store is high quality and made in the USA. We only carry what we would give to our dogs,” says Maggie. “We make dog treats here with human-grade ingredients, no preservatives, and of course, with the fun Buffalo theme.”

In another unique twist, shoppers at Buffalo Barkery can choose two different shopping experiences: they can visit with their pets during traditional hours or request a special shopping experience for nervous or reactive dogs.

“The goal is to make the customer and their dog feel welcome and feel like family from here,” Maggie explains. “We want everyone to be able to participate in the services we offer.”

The Lamparellis open the store weekly to Buffalo City Animal Shelter (CBAS) volunteers, who bring dogs into the store for a special experience so they can gauge how the animals behave outside the shelter.

Buffalo Barkery also conducts several fundraisers for organizations such as CBAS, Fix A Bull WNY, and Queen City Pitties. They regularly host a pet photographer and donate the proceeds, they also hold raffles for special causes and sell special “Buffalove” branded products with proceeds donated to CBAS.

“Giving back to the community is a big part of what we do,” says Maggie. “One of our main goals is to make Buffalo a better place and make as much of a positive impact as we can.”

Customers have responded positively to the unique pet store experience Buffalo Barkery offers and tend to visit regularly.

“We have very loyal customers,” says Cheryl. “We have become friends with many of our customers and celebrate their joy with their dogs, but also the challenges and sadness of losing a pet. “It’s been a great experience and I think our customers know how important they are to us and that makes a difference.”
