Gunmen shot and injured driver in Garissa attack

The shooting incident.

Multi-agency teams are pursuing a suspected terrorist gang who shot and injured a motorist in Disso, Garissa County.

The survivor told the police that they were on the Hagadera-Garissa road and when they reached the Dadere junction in Fafi district, a group of men in military uniforms confronted them and shot at their vehicle.

Police said the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon.

The other passengers of the car, together with the injured victim, quickly went to the Disso police camp and reported the situation.

They told police that the gang tried to stop them, but they disobeyed orders.

Police said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right arm.

The vehicle they were driving is said to be carrying goods that the police described as smuggled.

The injured person was taken to Garissa District Hospital and received treatment and it was learned that his condition was stable.

There were two holes in the windshield and right passenger window of the motor vehicle, suspected to be caused by bullets.

Police announced that they were tracking the gang operating in the area, which was behind a series of attacks on the road.

The gangs may be local militias or Al Shabaab militants crossing the porous Kenya-Somalia border.

Multi-agency teams are combing the area to hunt down the gangs.

The police have increased their operations in the region in order to tame the terrorist organization’s plans to establish bases and attack targeted areas.

This is part of counter-terrorism operations carried out by security agencies in the wider North East Region, which police say have been efficient in foiling terrorist attacks and ensuring the safety of local residents, who have vowed to enhance cooperation in the fight against the terrorist group.

There are terrorist threats in the country that lead to operations. The recovery was the latest in a series of incidents in the region.

The border area is subject to constant attacks by militants, who sometimes receive help from the local population.

Somalia did not have a stable government after the overthrow of Siad Barre in 1991.

The area is close to the Somali border, and militants often cross the border of their own accord and launch attacks before fleeing back.

After violating the security zones, Al-Shabaab terrorists attacked places in the region, especially Mandera and Garissa districts, causing the death and injury of dozens of civilians and security personnel.

Terrorists place explosives on routes used by security forces.

Kenyan soldiers are in Somalia to monitor and suppress the activities of the terrorist organization.

Kenya has stepped up operations against militants. Dozens of militants were killed in this process.
