(ABC 6 News) – A 17-year-old Minnesota teenager died after his canoe capsized on a western Wisconsin lake.

Reports of people screaming for help came in at Kirby Lake in Maple Plain Township just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.

Two people were in the water and the 17-year-old did not surface.

Multiple rescue teams searched the lake and divers brought the child to the surface. He was airlifted to hospital but could not be saved.

The child’s name and cause of death were not disclosed. The Barron County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin DNR are continuing the investigation.
