HPD says an elderly man was shot and killed while crossing Synott Street on Houston’s west side

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An investigation is ongoing after Houston police say an elderly man was fatally shot while crossing the street Monday.

According to HPD, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Synott Street on Houston’s west side.

Investigators said the victim, approximately 90 years old, was crossing the street in a poorly lit area with no crosswalk.

HPD said the driver told them he didn’t see the man until it was too late.

The accident closed Synott in both directions for several hours. At this point, investigators are unsure if the victim lives nearby or where he went.

According to HPD, the driver remained at the scene; He is cooperative and has not shown any signs of intoxication.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said, “It must have been very bad for the family of the person who was hit and for those driving the car. Believe me, there was a passenger there and that passenger has to deal with this trauma as well.” in question.

As with any fatal crash, police will forward findings from the investigation to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and determine whether any criminal charges are appropriate.
