Cowboys lose to Eagles: Score-by-score recap, highlights

play

ARLINGTON — Dallas Cowboys He entered the 10th week with a short hand and left with an ugly loss against an opponent he hated.

The Cowboys managed to force two fumbles by the Philadelphia Eagles in the first half, but the offense was unable to capitalize on miscues and mustered only six points and 104 yards of total offense. Dallas had eight total first downs and Rush struggled to pass the ball, posting a pedestrian 36 passing yards on 8-of-17 passing.

The situation was not so good in the second half. A manageable 14-6 deficit eventually grew to 34-6 as the Eagles put on substitutes for part of the final quarter.

The numbers were ugly: Philly fell to 24 points for the first time, Dallas to 11; Six points for Philly, six points for Dallas; 6.0 yards per pass for Philly and 1.5 yards per pass for Dallas. Trey Lance relieved Cooper Rush but had nearly as many rushing yards (17) as passing yards (21) on six carries. He was also dismissed twice.

The Eagles scored twice in the first half; The first of those came on a 1-yard dash by quarterback Jalen Hurts, and the second came on a 14-yard pass to tight end Dallas Goedert in the final seconds.

Dallas’ fourth straight loss pushed the Cowboys to 3-6 ahead of their Monday Night Football game against the Houston Texans. The 7-2 Eagles have a short week to prepare for Thursday’s Washington Commanders.

Cowboys vs. Eagles updates

A punt gives the Eagles the ball back with just over five minutes remaining. Instead of giving the ball back to the Cowboys, they recover a couple of first downs and elect to go for fourth-and-short with less than 2 minutes left. Eagles convert and Pickett takes a knee at the Dallas 36.

After adding three points on their next drive, a turnover by Jake Ferguson gave the Eagles a chance to return the ball into Dallas territory and score once again. With backup point guard Kenny Pickett and other reserves entering the game, the Eagles made another field goal and increased the lead to 34-6.

With the game seemingly set, the Eagles scored three more points, this time from 39 yards out, increasing their lead to 31-6.

Dallas failed to keep the game close, and the Eagles put that goal nearly out of reach with their second touchdown of the third quarter. A seven-play, 83-yard drive led to an eight-yard field goal by Hurts to make it 28–6.

Both teams went three-and-out to open the second half, but on the Eagles’ second possession, they were able to add seven points after a seven-play, 37-yard drive, this time with a four-yard touchdown pass to Johnny. Wilson. Eagles increased the difference to 21-6.

With 1:43 and 69 yards left in the half, the Eagles mounted a touchdown drive, capped by a 14-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to Dallas Goedert, giving Philadelphia a 14-6 lead.

Following a fumble by Ezekiel Elliott inside the Eagles’ 5-yard line, Hurts returns the favor with a strip sack by Micah Parsons. The Cowboys began taking possession at the Eagles’ 6-yard line but were only able to come away with three points, cutting the lead to 7-6 late in the half.

After KaVontae Turpin’s kick return put Dallas at the Cowboys’ 40-yard line, the offense responded with a nine-play, 32-yard drive, capping a 46-yard Brandon Aubrey field goal to make the score 7–3.

Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush fumbles his shotgun after both offenses return back-to-back punts, putting the Eagles at the Dallas 17-yard line. Philadelphia converts a third down that puts them down at the 1-yard line before Jalen Hurts lunges to make the score 7-0.

Cowboys vs Falcons predictions

ESPN: The overwhelming consensus among ESPN pundits is that the Falcons will take home the win in Week 9. Eleven panelists, eleven Philadelphia selections.

USA TODAY: Three USA TODAY writers are backing the Eagles, all by double digits. Richard Morin, the only man to go with Dallas, didn’t exactly give a convincing reason for it: “No one expects the Cowboys to win, which is exactly why they will. Dallas is always dangerous at home. I think Micah Parsons has an outstanding performance.”

Tony Catalina, Austin American Statesman: 2024 version Dallas Cowboys It’s been confusing for almost a year in recent memory. A matchup that usually produces fireworks has seemingly lost its impact with the loss of Dak Prescott. Dallas doesn’t have enough power to pull that off against an Eagles team that is coming into form today. Eagles 31, Cowboys 13.

Cedric Golden, Austin American Statesman: Dallas has too many injuries to key personnel to compete against the Eagles and Saquon Barkley; He is one of several running backs Dallas could sign in the offseason. Eagles 34, Cowboys 20
