Student of the Week offers schools the chance to celebrate young people who have entered an art, dance or music competition, excelled at a science fair, won an essay contest, received a scholarship, been recognized for their volunteer service or distinguished themselves in another field. path.

All high schools in Arizona are invited to nominate students to be included in the online survey, where azcentral.com readers vote to choose the Student of the Week.

Voting for Student of the Week is open from 6 a.m. Monday until noon Wednesday. Each week’s winner is announced online at 6am on Friday

Meet the candidates!

Logan Duncan, junior, Xavier College Preparatory School

Logan Duncan is an exemplary candidate for Student of the Week, demonstrating a remarkable blend of academic excellence, leadership and community service. As a Teen Lifeline peer mentor, writing center advisor, and Biology teaching assistant, Logan supports and mentors her peers by cultivating a nurturing educational environment. His athletic prowess is evident in varsity flag football and JV basketball, where he exemplifies teamwork and toughness. Academically, Logan stands out as a member of honor societies such as the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, and furthers his education through online college courses. Her leadership shines as co-founder of the Lavender Ribbon Mission, where she spearheaded impactful initiatives such as blanket and sock campaigns to help those in need. Logan’s dedication to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Campaign and the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation Youth Council, with more than 100 hours of service, underscores his commitment to making a meaningful difference. Logan’s all-around accomplishments make him a deserving recipient of this honor.

Asher Hanzal, third grade, Valley Christian Schools

Asher Hanzal recently set a career high with 24 total goals for Valley Christian Schools; in just two years on the school’s varsity team. The previous record holder was Austyn Gerard with 21. Asher was the leader of the football team for the past two years and played a key role in the team’s success. In the words of VCS High School Head Football Coach Jake Petersen, “He is one of the best we have ever seen.” We look forward to Asher continuing his leadership on the field in his senior season.

Sophia Ruiz Pedro, senior, Alhambra High School

I am honored to nominate Alhambra High School senior Sophia Ruiz Pedro for her extraordinary dedication and accomplishments. Sophia exemplifies perseverance and ambition, balancing her academic and artistic pursuits with family responsibilities. To earn her Piano Arts Seal, Sophia is taking extra lessons for independent study in addition to her regular lessons. His passion for music was showcased during his participation in Phoenix College Piano Day, where he demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication. Beyond her academic and artistic endeavors, Sophia works every day in her family’s food business and demonstrates responsibility and a strong work ethic. Sophia aspires to study business administration at university, which would make her the first person in her family to earn a college degree. His determination, dedication to his family, and academic excellence make him an outstanding candidate for recognition.
