Construction worker dies after fall at Virginia Tech

VINTON, Va. (WDBJ/Gray News) – A construction worker was killed and another was injured at Virginia Tech last Wednesday, according to the university.

The two were working on a wind tunnel renovation project at Virginia Tech’s Blacksburg campus when the scaffolding failed.

Family members of deceased James “Bo” Pugh said the man fell about 40 feet.

The university released a statement saying, “Virginia Tech extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased worker.”

Over the years, Pugh became a regular. Cranberry Restaurant In Vinton. The owners said they’ve been coming here for food several times a week for almost 15 years.

They said they weren’t sure what to do with the empty seat that such a cheerful and kind soul had occupied for so many years.

“I saw him on Monday. We talked about going hunting in two weeks… now I’m about to cry when I hear the sad news. He was a good friend, a good person. “Sweet guy, used to come here all the time,” said Raymond, one of the owners.

Family members say he was a wonderful and loving father, son, brother and friend.

While Pugh will forever have a special place in their hearts, it will soon have a special place on Dogwood’s menu, too.

“We’ll fix something for him. Yes, “Bo.” He’ll have to have Cajun homemade fries with it. “We make our own Cajun seasoning, and he loved it on everything,” said owners Raymond and Keith.

The name and condition of the injured construction worker were not disclosed.
