“This was a good person,” Chris McMullin, a Philadelphia native and lieutenant with the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office, told Fox News Digital.

“He was dedicated to his job, but he was also a dedicated family man,” McMullin said. “And he was dedicated to the community.”

McMullin, the show’s host, previously spent several years as a patrol officer with the Philadelphia Police Department, working his way up to becoming a detective with the Bensalem Police Department. He described how “relentless” the men in blue were in finding out who killed Beverly.

“That’s one of the reasons I wanted to tell this story and the other stories we’ve explored in the series,” McMullin explained. “I wanted to show how hard these detectives work for justice, to get justice for the victims and their families. These detectives want to protect our community. And in this case, they took an oath to find out who killed Corporal Beverly.”

All eyes are on the Boyle Street Boys, a street gang that uses “extremely violent tactics” to control its teenage members and “street-level dealers,” according to court documents. Their goal was to fiercely protect their “territory” for the sale and distribution of cocaine.

“They strongly backed up their threats,” McMullin said. “I hate to compliment them and I don’t mean it like that, but these were real. These weren’t just words. They would continue to make threats.”

Still, investigators were met with a “wall of silence” from the community.

“Chester is a tough town,” McMullin said. “There have been situations where people didn’t want to talk to me because they were afraid of reprisal. You can’t blame them for that. It’s hard. You have to work to gain the public’s trust. You have to keep your word. You can’t blame anyone for being afraid to speak out.” A gang that terrorizes the entire city.”

Detectives later learned that Beverly was attempting to mentor a young man in the community named Maurice Day. However, the last number Beverly called before the murder was not Day, but Gloria Adams, who lived just steps away from where she was killed. According to reports, Beverly called Adams about 10 minutes before he was shot and killed.

A visibly shaken Adams told detectives he had known Beverly for years. He described her as a positive role model for her son, Day. He told how Beverly tried to talk to the 18-year-old who was looking for a chance to join the Boyle Street Boys. But when they questioned Day, he claimed he was at his girlfriend’s house the night of the shooting. He confirmed his claim.

The case apparently went cold by October 2002. A woman arrested for drug possession claimed she witnessed Day shoot Beverly. Saying that Day “executed” Beverly, the prosecutor later suggested that Day was motivated to kill because he was “taunted, taunted, and ridiculed” by members of the Boyle Street Boys. Delco Times reported.

According to the series, Day was disappointed in Beverly’s friendship with her mother and feared her street credibility would be damaged.

“I don’t want to comment on that; I never spoke to the kid,” McMullin said. “From what I know about this case, my interpretation was that it was peer pressure and also that he didn’t want to be labeled as a rat. But I can’t say for sure why he did it.”

McMullin said what is certain is that police refuse to give up on finding Beverly’s killer.

“I think he’s happy to know that he can sit there for the rest of his life and think about what he did,” McMullin said. “Sometimes people think it’s worse than death.”

Today, McMullin hopes that Beverly’s legacy will be remembered and those who never gave up on finding her killer.

“Justice is not always easy to come by,” McMullin reflected. “It takes a lot of dedication and determination to solve a case. I want people to see that detectives all over the country, but especially in the Philadelphia area, are dedicated and want to protect the community. There have been some bad cops, yes, but there are much better cops.”
