Florida’s Escambia County Sheriff’s officials report officer-involved shooting

ECAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – Escambia County Sheriff, Florida authorities say a police officer was attacked with a gun Saturday night.

They say ECSO deputies responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the 800 block of Amberway Drive on November 9, 2024, at approximately 10:37 p.m.

They said callers reported a man firing a gun in his front yard.

When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect shot at them with his AR-15 rifle and took them away, ECSO officials said.

Deputies gave the suspect multiple commands to drop the gun, but the suspect refused, authorities said.

They said deputies were forced to shoot the suspect, who refused multiple commands and was taken to a local hospital.

ECSO said both a handgun and an AR-15 rifle were found in the front yard.

They say per Sheriff’s Office policy the deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave.

ECSO also said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been notified and is currently investigating the officer-involved shooting.
