ECAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating after Escambia County Sheriff’s Deputies shot an armed suspect Saturday night.

According to a to postDeputies responded to several reports of a man firing a gun in his front yard in the 800 block of Amberway Drive around 10:37 p.m.

When deputies arrived, the suspect shot at them with an AR-15 rifle. Deputies gave multiple orders to drop the gun, but the suspect refused.

Deputies shot and killed the suspect, who was later taken to the hospital. There is no word on his condition at this time. No MPs were injured in the incident. A handgun and AR-15 rifle were seized from the front yard.

The deputies involved will be placed on administrative leave per Sheriff’s Office policy.
