Broncos QB Bo Nix: ‘These are the games you dream of playing when you grow up’

The Denver Broncos will face an undefeated opponent led by their championship quarterback on the road on Sunday.

This checks almost all the boxes Bo NixThe Broncos’ rookie quarterback.

The Kansas City Chiefs head into their 128th regular season matchup against Denver as the NFL’s only undefeated team after winning the last two Super Bowls.

“I love it,” Nix said. “I think that boils down to why you want to play in the NFL. You want to play against these defenses. You want to play against these legendary coaches. You want to play against these Hall of Fame quarterbacks. And I think that’s for the best. I think playing in that type of matchup, you have an advantage.” It’s much better than playing with a team you know, so I think it will be fun.

“It will be difficult. I think the mentality and attitude in a tough match, I think that’s the most important part. You want to play in these big games. “You want to play the hard ones because if they were all easy, everyone could do it.”

The Broncos have lost their last eight visits to Kansas City. Denver’s most recent victory at Arrowhead Stadium came when cornerback Bradley Roby kicked a 21-yard field goal with 27 seconds left to lead the Broncos to a 31-24 victory on Sept. 17, 2015.

“This is my favorite” Nix said. “I think I’d rather play in a hostile environment than a low-level environment that’s not as fun; There are no fans in the game and you have to bring your own energy. I think these games are fun because there is a certain excitement and passion in the game.

“And I go back again: These are the games you dream of watching and playing when you grow up, so if you’re not ready for those games, then you probably don’t belong in the league. But this, the hostility and the new environment excites me. I’ve never been to this stadium. “He’s known as one of the best in the league, so I’m excited.”

Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who has a 12-1 record against Denver as a starting quarterback, has beaten the Broncos more times than any other NFL team.

“Obviously I’ve been watching him for a long time because he was putting up really good numbers in college.” Nix said. “And now, of course, in the league. He’s the best in the league right now, so everyone is trying to match him. I think everyone is trying to catch up. But he does a great job of being himself, playing within the system and making plays when his team needs him.”
