Bangladesh interim government will not allow Sheikh Hasina’s ‘fascist’ party to protest

Nearly three months after former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country Following mass anti-government protests in August, the Awami League called for a protest rally in Dhaka on Sunday. However, the interim government led by Muhammad Younis issued a strict warning to the Awami League not to stage protests.

“Awami League in its current form is a fascist party. This fascist party will not be allowed to protest in Bangladesh.” Yunus’ press secretary Shafiqul Alam said in a statement on Saturday.

Alam also said that anyone trying to organize rallies, meetings or marches “will face the full force of law enforcement.”

“The interim government will not tolerate any violence or any attempt to disrupt law and order in the country,” he added.

This comes after the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh Awami League’s student wing bannedChatra League, last month.

“Our protest is against the deprivation of rights of the people of the country, the rise of fundamentalist forces, and conspiracies to disrupt the lives of ordinary people,” the party said in a statement.“We appeal to all of you to join Awami League leaders and workers in protesting the misrule of the current regime.”
