Valor Bar celebrates the power of community

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Christopher Dingley served five years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed in Marjah, Afghanistan.

The combat veteran is now taking his skills from the field to the job with his new venture, Valor, a specialty cocktail bar and live music venue at Pearlridge Center Wai Makai.

“With all the traffic and construction going on on this island, no one wants to drive into town anymore. So opening a cocktail venue with live music in downtown Oahu gives people a place to gather and meet in a safe, air-conditioned environment with ample parking,” Dingley said.

Dingley has worked in many upscale restaurants and bars and has achieved many 1st place finishes in cocktail competitions. His dream was to open his own business that would be accessible to families.

For military service members, the transition to civilian life can be challenging. and Dingley understands this.

“During my time in the Marine Corps, courage was a word we used. No matter how hard the going got, no matter how dark the days, we would wake up and keep fighting because of the people who believed in us. Bringing this concept to life was a daily challenge, with many late nights on FaceTime, meetings with Andrew Evan and I, and problem-solving hurdles that kept popping up,” he recounted.

“Although we never gave up in this process, we woke up and continued to strive to keep this dream alive. When it came time to come up with a name, Valor seemed like a good fit. Everyone who comes to visit our home has faced a struggle at some point, but the people of Hawaii are a strong community. we fight and overcome the scoundrels. And now Valor is a place where we can celebrate.”

Dingley and mixologist Nelcar Pagdilao joined HNN Sunrise to talk about the unique concept and showcase their signature cocktails. Bar patrons can bring food from nearby mall vendors or purchase small charcuterie boards.

“I think what attracts people is that we are not only a live music venue, but we also offer a craft cocktail experience at a regular price during the day and on weekdays. Hospitality is our number one goal. We want people to know that no matter when you come for the dare, it will be an unforgettable experience,” Dingley said.

Valor opens at noon seven days a week and closes late on Friday and Saturday nights with live music featuring premium bands and artists. Pau Hana specials are available daily from 16:00 to 18:00.
