But New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, said he believed Mr. Trump might consider not including Britain in his tariff plans.

To talk Sunday Morning with Trevor PhillipsThe governor said he couldn’t speak on behalf of the president-elect but said he had a “good relationship” with him.

His instinct is that Mr Trump will not impose tariffs on goods from allies such as Britain. “But if I were China, I’m wearing my seat belt right now,” he said.

Mr Murphy said Mr Trump may view Britain favorably after it leaves the European Union.

According to The Telegraph, the president-elect is considering offering Britain a special deal that would exempt billions of pounds of British exports from tariffs.

“Donald Trump has some sympathy for emboldened renegades,” Mr. Murphy continued. “I think there’s a little bit of that. I think it’s a card that can be played. Let’s see.”

It was asked whether British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer Mr Murphy, who is in a position to build a rapport with the new president, said: “I’ve managed to find common ground with President Trump, and although I’m a cold-blooded capitalist, I’m a proud progressive, so that’s probably part of it. I’m the one that President Trump resonates with.”

Chancellor Rachel Reeves said it was Trade flow with the USA will continue “safely” despite the tariff offer.

Will Brexit help UK in Trump trade talks?

Could Brexit help Sir Keir Starmer and the UK government in trade negotiations with the US and President Trump, who calls himself a “tariff man”?

The suggestion, ironic given the Prime Minister’s hostility to Brexit and his promise to “start over” with the EU, was made by Trump’s ally and confidant, despite being a leading Democrat.

The claim comes from New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s Sunday Morning interview with Trevor Phillips on Sky News.

Murphy says he has a good relationship with Trump, who owns a stately home he calls the Summer White House, 500 acres of land and a golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, just 45 minutes from New York’s Trump Tower.

He says “deep down” Trump sympathizes with Britain for having the courage to withdraw from the EU, saying there is “this huge bureaucratic blob” and that it is “a card Britain can play” in trade talks.

Really? As Trevor kindly points out, it might be in Britain’s best interests to have Nigel Farage as prime minister rather than Sir Keir.

But speaking at the Reform UK regional conference in Exeter, Mr Farage described Mr Trump as a “pro-British American president” who would give the UK “potentially huge opportunities”.

But there is a problem, according to the Reform UK leader. Goodness from Trump will only come, he argues, “if we can overcome the challenges where the entire cabinet has been rude to him.”
