In times of national crisis, Bangladesh’s entertainment industry is often among the hardest hit. From artists to crew members, everyone is facing challenges due to lack of jobs and opportunities. Actor Ziaul Roshan recently expressed concern about the struggle to earn a stable livelihood in such uncertain times, highlighting the challenges that arise when artistes’ work dries up.

“It is becoming increasingly difficult for many to maintain normal standards of living,” he told The Daily Star, revealing the wider impact a crisis can have on those in the entertainment industry.

Roshan, one of the shining stars of his generation, made his debut in 2016 with Wazed Ali Sumon’s movie “Rokto”, in which he starred opposite Pori Moni. Since then he has appeared in numerous films; these include Shamim Ahmed Roni’s ‘Dhyatteriki’ (2017), in which she shared the screen with Nusraat Faria and Arifin Shuvoo, and Kamaleshwar Mukherjee’s Indian Bengali film ‘Cockpit’ (2017), in which she starred alongside the Tollywood actor. (2023), alongside Puja Chery, among many other projects. Apart from his film career, Roshan has also worked in many OTT productions.

Despite his busy schedule in normal times, Roshan is now cautious about making acting his sole profession as the entertainment industry is facing a downturn. He is now considering other options to secure his livelihood.

“We encountered a similar situation during the Covid epidemic. We had to wait for new projects for at least two years, sit idle and hope that things would return to normal. In such situations, it becomes difficult to make a living. As artists, we have to maintain a certain image and maintaining such a lifestyle is expensive, especially for the audience “Why should our families suffer while we wait for this?”

Roshan continued: “Whenever there is a crisis, the media industry also gets hit. With the recent political changes, productions have decreased again. Every two or three years, the pressure increases on the media industry and those of us who rely solely on the media. I am considering acting as a profession.” “When we consider it, we find ourselves backed into a corner.”

He explained that good projects usually take a long time to complete and he himself has been a victim of this in the past, with some of his feature-length projects being stalled due to the pandemic. There are no new projects anymore due to the current uncertainty and lack of investors in the country.

Regarding his decision to enter business life, the actor added: “I can no longer rely solely on acting; I need to provide a good future for my family. That’s why I decided to explore other avenues besides acting and chose to make a fresh start.”

When asked about his plans, he replied: “For now, I’m in the early stages of figuring out which market I can pursue. I’m not even sure if it will be related to the media industry, but I promise I will. Once the planning is complete, I’ll share it with everyone.”

On November 8, the actor celebrated his birthday. He is spending the day with his family and shared that despite the turmoil in his career, he feels personally blessed and spends time with his loving wife and two children.

Some of his completed projects like “Jamdani”, “Pulsirat” and “Makeup” are yet to see the light of day.

He also worked with Prarthana Fardin Dighi and Tanjin Tisha in the Deepto Play web movie “Hide and Seek” directed by Mahmdur Rahman Hime. This movie is also waiting to be released.
