That makes it hard to follow

I don’t know what to say, but it’s bye week and we’re all miserable.

Bruv, you are not the one responsible for writing the Saturday Inbox during the bye week.

Greetings II! What changes do you think the Packers will make after the bye? I remember a year later they transferred Clay Matthews to another position. Do you think they will make any changes at the linebacker position? Edgerrin Cooper is playing well, but Quay Walker is not playing well. Cooper appears to shoot through the holes faster than Walker. Which one do you think plays better when given the opportunity? Say hello to your old friend, the couch, on Sunday.

The Packers need to be healthy at some critical points, but I don’t foresee any major changes coming from the bye. When it comes to inside linebacker, it’s too much to ask for a rookie to play “Mike.” Krys Barnes did this in 2020, but it’s a huge undertaking. Personally, I like how the Packers used Cooper in Year 1. This usage allows the rookie second-round pick to play fast and loose without having to communicate with the defense. This also makes it difficult for him to follow the offense.

I liked Mike’s answer to Kemp’s question. I was analyzing the play-by-play of the Detroit game and imploring the others to do the same. It really made me realize how short the game is, despite how long it appears to be on stream. When you say good or great players are playing great, you are talking about a handful of outstanding plays or key mistakes that can make a team look outstanding or unfortunate. A pick six could be a 12 point hit. On average, this amounts to almost 30% of all points scored in a match.

This is what I mentioned in my Jared Goff answer that Spoff hit the nail on the head. I should have avoided the “M” word because I wasn’t calling Goff a game manager. My point was that his efficiency allowed the Lions to hold the advantage. Detroit takes the air out of the game and clears the clock; That’s the recipe Tom Brady and Co. have perfected over many years in New England.

I’m not sure if this counts as math, which is strictly prohibited, but how young is the youngest team in the NFL after Preston Smith’s departure?

It’s probably down a few decimal places, but a 31-year-old pass rusher on the 53-man roster won’t drastically change the numbers.

Don’t you think Preston Smith is worth more than a future seventh-round draft pick?

It’s bigger than that, Rick. You also have to take Smith’s contract into account.

Wes, I didn’t realize how special Ahman Green was compared to all the other RBs that went green and gold. How would he perform in the current NFL?

It would be much better in today’s NFL. Green and Mike Sherman were well ahead of the curve in using the All-Pro running back as a weapon in the passing game.

MarShawn Lloyd has been out of action for a long time due to his ankle injury. It seems that players can usually recover quickly from this injury. How much of his absence from the squad is due to the recovery process and the player’s “numbers game”? With Chris Brooks better than expected and Josh Jacobs, Brooks and Emanuel Wilson healthy, didn’t it necessitate bringing Lloyd back? Did keeping Lloyd on IR help them open up the possibility of a guy like Brooks being picked up by another team?

The Packers aren’t keeping their rookie third-round pick on IR because of the “numbers” game. Lloyd was injured. I wasn’t with him in the MRI machine to find out the full extent of his injury, but the man is injured. But based on what Brian Gutekunst said on Tuesday, it appears Lloyd is nearing a comeback. Once cleared it will revert back to 53.

BG was asked about the open roster spot and said something about waiting to see how Lloyd does. Is every team required to play the full 53 pitches? Hypothetically, could a team with serious cap issues only have 52 points? 45?

I no longer believe that being 53 years old is a requirement, but not using all the quotas in the squad would be to the detriment of the team. A few base minimum salaries below 53 have a marginal impact on the salary cap. I remember pre-COVID, there was a rule stipulating that a team could not have a veteran exempt player on the practice squad if there was an open spot on the active roster.

Good morning, Bill from Clive, IA asked about average running distance per game to better measure periods with different season lengths. I’m too young to watch JT play (he was my dad’s favorite player) but I also want to point out that the NFL was a very different place in the 60s. Everyone knew the Packers were going to run, but they couldn’t stop it. Compared to the play action and misdirection of the modern NFL, it was much harder to get yards when the D was waiting for you.

Yes and no. Although the proliferation of offensive passing in today’s NFL did not exist then, teams still changed their looks to keep defenses off-balance. For example, it’s not like the Packers line up in an I-form 25 times and do a gut workout for three hours. They mixed it up too.
