New York Woman Transforms Apartment Into Medieval Castle (Exclusive)

McNamee’s home features candlelit chandeliers, thrones as seating and medieval paintings, as well as a main dining table that’s actually from a castle in England.

The house, called “Mac Con Midhe Castle,” which McNamee explains is “the Gaelic spelling of my last name,” consists of many areas that McNamee considers his “favorites.”

“The fireplace wall in the living room, which is the focal point of the first floor, the stairwell that really fascinates visitors and gives the whole house an original feel, and the dark wooden ceiling beams and consoles and stained glass windows are very reminiscent of an old church,” he says about the three most appreciated points of the house.

According to McNamee, he has “always been interested in the architecture of castles, but I have never actually visited any of them.”

“For my birthday in just over a year, I’m planning a tour of the castles of Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales,” he told PEOPLE.

When it comes to inspiring others to decorate and furnish their homes the way they want, McNamee shares one piece of advice, even if it may seem unconventional to others: “just do it.”

“This type of work is an ongoing labor of love. It is very rewarding and fun and, similar to other mediums, is an outlet for artistic expression,” he explains.
