More than 100 Third District residents set to find work

Increasing skills through the government’s training initiative

More than 100 residents of the Third District will soon have access to training programs designed to increase their employability and equip them with valuable skills through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).
This development follows a commitment made by Labor Secretary Joseph Hamilton during a meeting held recently at the Leonora Technical Institute.

Among other officials, Minister of the Ministry of Public Works Deodat Indar and Regional Chairman İşhan Ayube were also present at the meeting. Speaking at the meeting, Minister Hamilton underlined the importance of the initiative and stated that residents’ participation reflected their determination to acquire skills to support themselves and their families. He praised community members for understanding the value of technical education and its role in creating employment opportunities.
Minister Hamilton emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of empowering citizens through skills training, creating a workforce equipped to meet the demands of both existing and emerging industries. The program also supports the government’s commitment to promoting a skilled workforce as outlined in its manifesto, which prioritizes national growth and economic development.

The Minister encouraged participants to take advantage of this opportunity by registering with the help of ICT technical officers present in the region. The ICT team was also expected to visit local communities to discuss training needs and gather input on desired programs.
The meeting brought together residents of various Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in the Third District, including Wakenaam, Leguan, Mora/Parika, Hydronie/Goodhope, Greenwich Park/Vergenoegen, Tuschen and Uitvlugt. Through this effort, residents of the Third Region will continue to benefit from programs that will equip them with skills relevant to Guyana’s evolving job market, promoting sustainable livelihoods and social progress.
