National Parks are free on Veterans Day

In celebration of Veterans Day, the National Park Service (NPS) invites everyone to explore America’s national parks with free admission on November 11.

Veterans, active-duty military members, and Gold Star Families can enjoy year-round access to national parks with the NPS Military Pass, which offers a unique opportunity to explore the nation’s rich natural and historical areas.

Plan Your Park Visit

How is it prepared:

  • Choose a Park: With more than 400 national parks across the country, you’re likely to find a place that suits your interests, whether it’s a historical site or a natural wonder. Check the options in: nps.gov/findapark.
  • Check Reservations: Although there are no entrance fees, some parks may still require advance reservations.
  • Get the Military Pass: For free access year-round, eligible service members, veterans, and Gold Star Families can obtain a Military Pass by showing a valid ID at any paid park.

Before You Go:

  • Stay Up to Date on Terms: Each park’s operating hours, weather and facilities vary; so it’s best to check the latest information on the park’s website.
  • Package Basics: Be sure to bring water, snacks, maps and appropriate clothing to make your visit comfortable.

In the park:

  • Follow Safety Guidelines: To preserve the beauty and safety of the area, stick to designated trails, park legally, and pay attention to parking rules.
  • Respect Wildlife: Admire the animals from afar without feeding them or getting close to them.
  • Leave No Trace: To keep parks clean, dispose of all waste, including food and pet waste.

“We are excited to offer free access to our national parks on Veterans Day, and we especially encourage military families, veterans and Gold Star Families to purchase a Military Pass for year-round entry,” said NPS Director Chuck Sams. “As a veteran, I know how meaningful it is for our service members and their families to connect with our history and natural beauty.”
